Lions Camp Badger will operate week long, inclusive summer programs where campers, with and without disabilities, will build greater self-awareness, confidence and independent skills, while providing their families and caregivers a break from the demands of constant care.
/////
Youth with disabilities may have a wide range of learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Common
diagnoses include Developmental Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, Pervasive Developmental
Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Non Verbal Learning Disabilities. We do not have the expertise or capabilities to support campers with complex emotional and behavioral disabilities.
/////
All campers must be able to take care of their hygiene and other self-care tasks, be continent, as well as selfmanage in a group and respond to direction and authority. We can accommodate personal aides for a limited number of campers. In this case, an additional fee will be charged to offset the costs of employing the aide, including the cost of providing food and lodging.
/////
Lions Camp Badger will offer structured recreational and “experiential learning” camping programs for
youth with special needs and their siblings, ages 10-21. The purpose of our camping experience is to provide experiences where each young person can explore nature, discover their own interests and abilities, experience new adventures, practice social and life skills and, most important, make new friends and have fun.
/////
The expectation for all of our campers is that each camper will return home ready to continue to practice and apply the new skills that they have learned at camp.
/////
Our goals for all of our camping experience programs include helping campers:
• Develop personal goals that build on their individual talents, skills, and strengths.
• Be good decision-makers and make personal choices that support their goals.
• Promote citizenship, leadership, and teamwork.
• Support health and wellness, physical fitness and good nutrition
• Achieve increased independence and community inclusion
• Improve their self-image, attitude through an increased understanding of their learning style
and how to be successful in home, school and community activities.
/////
Camping experiences include a wide range of opportunities, including:
• Individual and team sports, including soccer, softball, track and field events
• Hiking, canoeing, boating, gardening, and arts and crafts
• Independent living, career readiness, and transition skill building activities.
• As necessary, personal care and hygiene reminders and supports to promote physical and
dental self-care.
• Development of personal interests, hobbies and recreational and leisure activities.
/////
Campers will choose among a variety of activities each day, and will be encouraged to participate in
activities they may never have tried.
/////
All of camp activities are designed to promote:
• Greater self-awareness and understanding of abilities and skills.
• Teamwork
• Independence and Personal Empowerment
• Opportunities to learn from their peers and build friendships.
• Share and express ideas
• Positive attitudes and beliefs

This two-week summer camp will give campers a unique, personcentered and highly personalized opportunity to develop independent living skills under the watchful guidance and support of our staff. It will include daily activities used to integrate social skills, improve communication, self-advocacy and leadership skills, and promote independence, teamwork, good citizenship, and character building.
